Commissioner Johnny Wilson is a public safety veteran, a small business owner, and a family man whose leadership and experience have led commission district I since January 2017.
Johnny has made his career in public service because he believes that helping to keep his community safe is a great privilege and an important duty. He started with the Riverdale Fire Department in 1981 before transitioning to the Henry County Fire Department in 1990. After thirty-two years of fire service, Johnny retired as a Lieutenant in 2013. Keeping watch over his fellow citizens, battling blazes, providing immediate medical aid, transporting the critically ill, leading fellow firefighters, and paying tribute as a member of the department’s Honor Guard were highlights of his long career and memories that Johnny will cherish forever.
While serving the community as a firefighter, Commissioner Wilson also successfully run a number of small businesses within Henry County and south metro Atlanta. These entrepreneurial endeavors included general contracting (1979–2003), debris removal (1997–2003), and real estate investment and property management (2003–present). His experience with the administrative and financial aspects of running a small business has given him a deep appreciation for how hard work and fiscal sensibility are the key ingredients for success.
Johnny is a proud Georgia native who has resided in Henry County for over thirty-five years. He has been married to his lovely wife, Donna, since 1979, and, together, they have three grown daughters and five grandchildren.
